Greetings!
Have you been on a seesaw lately, going up and down and losing sight of what’s truly important? Don’t worry, with the tumultuous election, there’s been a lot of that going around! But now that we’ve gotten through all this craziness, it’s time to take a deep breath and focus on what’s important to you.
When I first put pen to paper and began writing my book, one of the earliest concepts I ironed out was that inspiration and meaning can be found within Seven Pillars. Those Pillars are:
- Health
- Careers
- Finances
- Relationships
- Achievement
- Experiences
- Giving Back
Is being able to run a marathon important to you? That would fall within the Pillar of Health.
Is putting your kids through a top university important to you? That’s under the Relationships Pillar.
Do you believe strongly in volunteering and charity? You can probably guess that those interests lie in Giving Back.
Framing your interests and desires is suddenly pretty easy when you silo them into these categories. But which Pillars are most important to you? Therein lies the riddle, and the source of a great deal of hesitation for people. Is getting a promotion at work more important than the experience of backpacking across Europe? Do you want to save up to buy a house, or do you want to climb Mount Everest? Is the Pillar of Career more important to you than Experiences, or Finances more important than Achievement?
These can be tough questions, and people often get bogged down in trying to answer them. They get stuck in Seesaw Park!
Picking Pillars, ranking them, and determining which goals you should pursue and which should go on the backburner is no mean feat, and in my book, I have a worksheet called the Pillar Ranker which can help figure this stuff out. Although choices always need to be made, there are ways to make them easier to make while also having a full life.
So what should you do to get off the seesaw? I outline all the details in my book (read a free chapter here), but Step 1 is using the Pillars as a framework.
Now that the election is over, what’s important to you? Are you ready to get off the seesaw?
Stay tuned!
All the best,
